Customer Relationship Management (CRM) Helps Define Your Success
It has often been said that the life blood of any business is keeping customers coming in the door. How many you need may depend on how well you are managing your current customer base. Definethat.com definition for Customer Relationship Management says:
"CRM (Customer Relationship Management) is a business strategy built around the concept of being customer-centric. The main goals are to optimise revenue through improved customer satisfaction via improved interactions at each customer touch point. This can be accomplished by a better understanding of customers, based on their purchasing patterns and demographics, and better information empowerment at all customer touch points, whether with employees or other media interfaces."
You can't expect the customer to come to you and say, "How can I make more money working with you?" They will assume that by using your product or service that they have all your resources at hand. This isn't true. If it is YOUR product or service, you are an expert on it. The problem is sometimes you don't think to continually follow-up with custoemrs after the sale. I don't mean once or twice, I mean continually.
Here is an example from my experience running a Used Car Website:
When I went to visit my customers to take pictures and get updates, I always planned for spending a little extra time with them to talk about their business. Business is more about building relationships then it is about selling a product or service. Selling a product or service is second to building a relationship -- which naturally follows successfull relationships.
One customer, let's call him Howie, said on one of my visits, "I probably won't be with you much longer. Some of the other people I've talked to who use your service are moving more cars then I am."
Let's analyze this. For the price of the advertising compared to the the extra money he was making by advertising with me, I doubt if he had any plans to stop advertising. So this was a complaint. He knew some of the other dealers were moving more cars then he was, and he would've liked to get more out of my service for his advertising dollar.
I said, "Howie... most folks searching the database on the website will find the same car you're selling, someplace else for $500 cheaper then what you are asking."
Howie caught on to the idea. He started using the website to monitor his competitors prices, and introduced some loss leaders. By the following month he was making sales and using the website to his advantage. Using loss leaders to be more competitve didn't cost him anything, because he could charge more for other vehicles where the market wasn't as competitive. And just because a certain price or car attracts a potential customer to a dealership, doesn't mean the customer might not be interested in looking at something else on the same lot.
The about a month later in another discussion with Howie, he said he would like to be able to refer more people to the website, but he wanted the site to list his cars first. This time Howie wasn't alone in this request because other dealers had also mentioned they would like to be able to do this. So by programming this into the database (to sort cars by dealer) and then creating subdomains that look like dealername used carwebsite.com I was able to satisfy Howie as well as a few other clients.
Adjusting current programs to continually meet the needs your customers, means happy customers. They are also more likely to recommend you to their business associates, which can bring in new business.
Hopefully this article will encourage you to follow-up on some of the customers you might not have heard rom for a while. See how their business is coming along. See what benfits they are still getting out of the product or service you sold them. Ask for some feedback. They will benift from this and appreciate it. You will also benefit.
Of course there is always text that you have to put into a document too. Sometimes it is hard to tell exactly how an empty template will behave. It is like an empty pitcher — begging to be filled.
And then of course it always a good idea to even add more text so you can get a real good idea of what is going on with the right div. Sometimes it is a little hard to tell without enough text in there to see what the potential problems may be. Hopefully, this will be enough for this test.
