Using Firefox to Keep Vistors
Updated on Your News
You should put a link in your <head></head> element that links to your XML file. For example, here is mine:
<link rel="alternate" type="application/rss+xml" title="RSS" href="http://homebusiness websites.com/xml/homebusiness_websites.xml" />
For further reference see:
http://www.w3.org/QA/Tips/use-links
That will help Firefox detect your feed, although it doesn't seem to work on all sites.
There are two ways to use Firefox with XML/RSS feeds. One method is to use Sage. You can read more about it here:
http://sage.mozdev.org/installation.html
It has these features:
* Feed Discovery: one click finds any feeds in the current document
* Zero configuration install: much easier getting started for new users
After installation, there are four ways to access Sage in Firefox:
* Menu selection, Tools -> Sage
* Menu selection, View -> Sidebar -> Sage
* Keyboard shortcut, Alt-S
* Toolbar button, View -> Toolbars -> Customize, drag the Sage icon to the toolbar
To get an idea of how your site visitors would work with this I've prepared a screenshot so you can see what my News feed would look like using Sage:

If you think this method is too complicated to convince your site visitors to try, there is another method using Firefox's "Live Bookmarks."
Live Bookmarks is a new technology in Firefox that lets you view RSS news and blog headlines in the bookmarks toolbar or bookmarks menu. With one glance, quickly see the latest headlines from your favorite sites. You can learn more about it here:
http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/live-bookmarks.html
Every time you restart Firefox it checks and updates the live bookmark and adds any new items in your XML/RSS feed. You can see a screenshot (again using my newsfeed as an example) at:
